Authorities said at least three people are dead following a shooting at an elementary school in Northern California on Tuesday morning.
Among the dead are the gunman, who was killed by police, authorities said.
“At this point the suspected shooter is deceased by law enforcement bullets,” Tehama County Assistant Sheriff Phil Johnston told reporters. “I know of at least three deaths.”
Authorities said the shooting occurred around 8 a.m. in Rancho Tehama, near Red Bluff, Calif., about 120 miles northwest of Sacramento.
Johnston did not have a total number of victims, but said that “a number” of students had been medically evacuated from the scene.
“We have about 100 law enforcement personnel in Rancho Tehama right now with multiple, multpile scenes,” Johnston said.
Multiple students have been transported after an “active shooter situation” at an elementary school in TehamaCounty, officials said.
According to local law enforcement, there were”multiple victims in multiple locations.” The suspected shooter is dead, police said.
There was no immediate estimate on the number of victims, but police confirmed that “a number of students” were transported to hospitals.
Police said there were “at least five” shooting scenes.Ann Bates, administrative assistant to the superintendent of Corning Union Elementary School District, confirmed injuries at the school, but said there were no deaths at this time.The school remains on lock down.
A Deputy told local media the shootings took place at several crime scenes and ‘multiple shots’ were fired at the elementary school. According to scanner traffic, children as young as 6 are among the wounded. The Enloe Medical Center in Chico says they’ve received four patients, one adult and three children.
The school has been evacuated as police escorted the children to a safe location. A motive for the attack was not known.

The Corning Union Elementary School District released a statement: “We have had an active shooter incident at Rancho Tehama Elementary this morning. There are confirmed injuries. We are cooperating with law enforcement during this investigation but do not have specific details at this time.”
